How do I protect my recovery phrase?

Your recovery phrase gives access to your Bitnomi wallet. Anyone who gets it may be able to move the Bitcoin in both your BTC Pay and BTC Vault wallets.

Keep it private, offline, and somewhere only you can access.

What should I do?

• Write all 12 words down in the exact order shown.

• Check that every word is clear and spelled correctly.

• Store the written copy in a private, secure place.

• Keep it protected from water, fire, damage, and loss.

• Consider keeping a second copy in a different secure location.

• Make sure trusted people cannot access it without your permission.

  
  

What should I avoid?

Do not:

• Take a screenshot or photo

• Save it in your phone, computer, or notes app

• Store it in email or cloud storage

• Send it through WhatsApp, Telegram, or another messaging app

• Share it with friends, family, or support agents

• Enter it into an unfamiliar app, website, or form

• Read it aloud during a call or screen-sharing session

Bitnomi Support will never ask for your recovery phrase.

Should I store it online?

No. Keeping your recovery phrase online makes it easier for someone to access it through a hacked account, stolen device, or malicious app.

A written offline copy is usually safer than a digital copy.

How can I check that my backup is correct?

Before finishing wallet setup:

1. Confirm that all 12 words are written down.

2. Check the spelling and order.

3. Complete the recovery phrase confirmation in the Bitnomi app.

4. Store the phrase securely after verification.

Do not rely only on your memory.

What if someone sees my recovery phrase?

Treat the wallet as compromised.

Someone with the phrase may be able to recover your wallet and move your Bitcoin without your permission. Move your Bitcoin to a new wallet with a new recovery phrase as soon as possible.

Do not continue using an exposed recovery phrase.

What if I lose my recovery phrase?

If you can still access your wallet, move your Bitcoin to a new wallet with a recovery phrase you have safely backed up.

If you lose both your device and recovery phrase, Bitnomi cannot recover your wallet or the Bitcoin stored in it.
