What is a recovery phrase?
A recovery phrase is a set of 12 words that gives you access to your Bitnomi wallet.
It acts as the backup for your wallet and can be used to restore it if you lose your phone, reinstall the app, or move to another supported device.
Why is the recovery phrase important?
Your recovery phrase is the most important backup for your Bitcoin wallet.
You may need it when:
Your phone is lost or damaged
You reinstall Bitnomi
You move your wallet to another supported device
You need to recover access to BTC Pay and BTC Vault
The same recovery phrase is used for all supported Bitnomi wallets.
What does the recovery phrase protect?
Your recovery phrase protects access to:

How should I store it?

Store it offline
Consider keeping a second copy in another secure location
Check that every word is written clearly and correctly
What should I avoid?
Do not:
Take a screenshot
Save it in your phone gallery
Store it in email, cloud storage, notes, or messaging apps
Share it with friends, family, or support agents
Enter it on an unfamiliar website or app
Change the order of the words
Bitnomi Support will never ask for your recovery phrase.
What happens if I lose it?
If your wallet is still available on your device, losing the written recovery phrase does not immediately remove access.
However, if you later lose access to the device, you may not be able to recover the wallet.
If both your device and recovery phrase are lost, Bitnomi cannot restore your wallet or recover the Bitcoin stored in it.
What happens if someone else sees it?
Anyone with your recovery phrase may be able to recover your wallet and move your Bitcoin.
Treat an exposed recovery phrase as a serious security risk. Move your Bitcoin to a newly created wallet with a new recovery phrase as soon as possible.
