Sending & Receiving Bitcoin

How do I receive Bitcoin through Lightning?

How do I receive Bitcoin through Lightning?

You can receive Bitcoin through the Lightning Network directly into your BTC Pay wallet.

Lightning is designed for instant, low-fee Bitcoin payments and is best suited for smaller transfers and everyday payments.

How do I open the Lightning receive screen?

You can start in either of these ways:

  • Open BTC Pay and tap Receive

  • Tap Receive from the home page

The home-page Receive option opens the Lightning receive screen by default.

How do I receive a Lightning payment?

  1. Open the Lightning receive screen.

  2. Choose whether to receive:

    • Any amount, or

    • A specific amount

  3. If needed, enter the amount you want to receive.

  4. Bitnomi will generate a Lightning invoice and QR code.

  5. Tap Copy to copy the invoice, or Share to send it through another app.

  6. Ask the sender to pay the invoice using a Lightning-supported wallet.

Once the payment is completed, the Bitcoin will be added to your BTC Pay balance.

What is a Lightning invoice?

A Lightning invoice is a payment request created for a Lightning transaction.

It may include:

  • The amount to be paid

  • Payment information

  • An expiry time

  • A QR code

Some invoices include a fixed amount, while others allow the sender to enter the amount.

How do I request a specific amount?

  1. Enter the amount you want to receive.

  2. Confirm the amount.

  3. Share the generated Lightning invoice or QR code with the sender.

The sender should pay the exact amount shown in the invoice.

How do I copy or share the invoice?

To copy it:

  1. Tap Copy.

  2. The invoice will be copied to your clipboard.

  3. Bitnomi will show a confirmation message.

To share it:

  1. Tap Share.

  2. Choose an app or sharing method from your device.

  3. Send the invoice to the payer.

Avoid manually typing or changing the invoice.

How long does a Lightning payment take?

Lightning payments are usually completed almost instantly.

The exact time may depend on network availability and the sender’s wallet.

Once the payment is received:

  • Your BTC Pay balance will update

  • The transaction will appear in your transaction history

  • You will receive a notification

What happens if the invoice expires?

An expired Lightning invoice cannot be paid.

Create a new invoice and share it with the sender.

What happens if the sender uses the wrong network?

The sender must use the Lightning Network.

A Lightning invoice cannot be paid through the Bitcoin on-chain or Spark network. Using the wrong network will usually cause the payment to fail.

Always confirm that the sender’s wallet supports Lightning before sharing the invoice.

What happens if the invoice is incorrect?

  • Invalid invoice: The sender’s wallet should prevent the payment.

  • Expired invoice: Generate and share a new invoice.

  • Wrong invoice: The payment may be sent to a different recipient and may not be recoverable.

Use the Copy, Share, or QR code options to reduce mistakes.
