Sending & Receiving Bitcoin

How do I send Bitcoin from the BTC Pay?

You can send Bitcoin from BTC Pay using the Lightning Network or Spark network.

BTC Pay is designed for fast, low-fee Bitcoin payments and is best suited for smaller transfers and everyday spending.

Which networks can I use with BTC Pay?

Network

Wallet used

Best for

Lightning

BTC Pay

Fast Bitcoin payments using a Lightning invoice

Spark

BTC Pay

Fast transfers to a supported Spark address

You cannot send an on-chain transaction from BTC Pay. To send Bitcoin to an on-chain address, use BTC Vault.

How do I start a BTC Pay transaction?

You can start in either of these ways:

  • Tap Send on the home page, then select Lightning or Spark

  • Open BTC Pay and tap Send

If this is your first time using the Send flow, Bitnomi will show a short walkthrough. You can open it again later by tapping the help icon in the top-right corner.

How do I add the recipient’s payment details?

Enter or scan one of the following:

  • A Lightning invoice

  • A supported Spark address

  • A QR code containing the payment details

Bitnomi will check the destination before allowing you to continue.

If the payment details are not valid, the app will show an Invalid address or invoice error.

How do I enter the amount?

The next step depends on the payment request.

When the amount is already included

Some Lightning invoices or payment requests already contain a fixed amount.

In this case, you will go directly to the transaction preview and will not be able to change the amount.

When the amount is not included

Enter the amount you want to send using your selected Bitcoin unit, either BTC or SAT.

You can also tap Use Max to send the maximum amount available after fees.

The amount and transaction fee must both be covered by your BTC Pay balance.

What happens if my balance is not enough?

You will not be able to continue when:

  • The amount exceeds your available balance

  • The amount is available, but the amount plus fee exceeds your balance

  • A fixed payment amount plus its fee cannot be fully covered

The app will show an error explaining that your available balance is insufficient. Reduce the amount or add more Bitcoin to BTC Pay before trying again.

What should I review before sending?

The transaction preview shows:

  • The amount the recipient will receive

  • The transaction fee

  • The Lightning invoice or Spark address

  • An optional note, where available

  • The total amount deducted from your balance

Check every detail carefully before continuing. Bitcoin payments may not be reversible after they are sent.

What happens if the invoice or address is wrong?

  • Invalid destination: Bitnomi will prevent you from continuing.

  • Expired Lightning invoice: Ask the recipient to create a new invoice.

  • Wrong but valid destination: The payment may be sent to the wrong recipient and may not be recoverable.

  • Wrong network: A Lightning invoice must be sent through Lightning, while a Spark address must be sent through Spark.

Confirm the payment network and destination with the recipient before sending.

How do I confirm the transaction?

  1. Review the transaction details.

  2. Tap Send.

  3. Authenticate using:

    • Your Bitnomi PIN, or

    • Fingerprint or Face ID, if enabled

You have up to three authentication attempts.

If authentication fails three times, the transaction will be cancelled and the Bitcoin will not be sent.

What happens after I confirm?

After successful authentication, the transaction status will appear as In progress while it is processed by the selected network.

  2. Find the BTC Pay send transaction.
